TERMS AND CONDITIONS [updated September 23 2021]

Health and Safety The Vancouver Mysteries team is committed to following all directions from medical health officers
and our regional health authority as well as orders, guidance, recommendations and notices issued by the provincial health officer.

Secret Start Location Your organizer will receive an email with instructions and the secret starting location approximately 3 days before the game date.Organizers agree to share this information with guests (please check your junk or spam folder for emails from [email protected] before you contact us to re-send your location/link).

Maximum Game Time Unless otherwise specified in your booking confirmation email or further instructions provided by us, your booking is for two hours. If you or your team mates (the people you signed up with) arrive late you will have less time to play. Game time begins at the time you chose during the booking process, not the time you arrive. It includes the game introduction, score calculations and game ending. It may also include signing of waivers, attendance and/or payment transactions if these are not completed before your time slot begins. (Plan to arrive 5 minutes early ready to play and factor in extra time needed to find parking or to meet up with your team mates.)

Team Size Maximum team size is 6 players for all outdoor games with the exception of the Heroes and Villains game we offer for groups with younger children (maximum team size is 5 players). Games that exceed the maximum team size will be divided into teams and each team will be provided with a game kit. Examples: 1. A game of 6 players plays together as 1 team. 2. A game of 8 players is divided into 2 teams of 4 players each. 3. A game of 30 players is 5 teams of 6 players each. Portable Games: The Case of the Hotel Detective – players gather around the evidence at a table (maximum team size 10 players). Multiple games can be run simultaneously (up to 10 players per game).

Game size Outdoor Games accommodate a maximum of 48 players per game (8 teams of 6 players each) with the exception of Heroes & Villains Family which is 40 players per game (8 teams of 5 players each). Larger groups play different games simultaneously in a Mega Mystery (up to 144 players).

Age restrictions All games require at least one adult (either playing or supervising). Younger children often enjoy the games when they are teamed up with adults and/or older siblings. A Parent/Guardian must accompany each team of participants under the age of 19 – every team must have one adult. We will waive this requirement for groups of kids who are 16+ if we receive written confirmation from the organiser that the parents/legal guardians are aware that teams of minors will be unaccompanied by an adult (example: field trips). Note: waivers must still be on file.

You know your kids best but here are our general guidelines. Crime in Downtown, Heroes & Villains, Secret Mission, The Pegasus Project: ages 12 and up. Heroes & Villains Family: ages 8 and up. Game Operators All games come with at least one Game Operator. Game Operators will guide you through contactless pick up and drop off of game kits, start your game and then end your game by
calculating your score and awarding team certificates. By agreeing to the Terms & Conditions you agree to follow their instructions. The actual game is self-guided -you follow a map and complete challenges as you explore downtown Vancouver’s architecture, historical landmarks, parks and public art. You will not intentionally encounter any Vancouver Mysteries staff along the game route. Do not call us and ask for help solving the mystery – if you get stuck, move on to the next challenge.

Times All times are in the Pacific Time Zone (Vancouver BC) UTC/GMT -8 hours

Prices All prices quoted are subject to availability and in Canadian dollars. Prices that are quoted do
not include taxes. Gratuities are kindly accepted.

Payment You can pay online during your booking. We also accept payments over the telephone and e-transfers. Paying separately? Choose the “split pay” option during checkout or ask your friends to estransfer their share of the payment to [email protected]. Private Bookings: pick any date and time that works for you and make your booking
request. Once we accept the booking, you will receive an email with a request to pay a deposit. Payment of a
deposit secures your spot on our calendar. Full payment is due 24 hours before your game time.

Waivers We are not responsible for illness or injury of players during a game. Players are required to
sign a liability release form (waiver) before the game start. The game organizer will receive an email
with a link to the digital waivers – please share this with every player. Parents/Guardians are required
to sign the release on behalf of participants of minor age (under age 19). Groups of minors and private bookings:
we can also send you waivers to print out and sign at your request. If you are booking a game for a
group of minors it is your responsibility to inform us and get the waivers signed. If waivers are not
signed 2 hours before game time, we reserve the right to cancel your booking.

Weather and conditions Outdoor games operate rain or shine – please dress appropriately for the
weather. One umbrella per team is highly recommended on days with a chance of rain.

Other notes Please bring your reading glasses if you will need them to see the clues. Please note
that game routes for outdoor games cover approximately 2km. While the game is not strenuous,
walking is involved and players will be on their feet for the duration of the game. Players are
responsible for making sure they are able to complete the game.

• I agree to stay at home if I have cold or flu symptoms and to wash my hands/use hand sanitizer as
  needed.
• I also agree to follow current public health guidelines while attending a Vancouver Mysteries game or
  special event.
• I understand that Vancouver Mysteries may cancel a game/eject a player when rules are not followed,
  no refunds.
• I understand that I must return all game gear within the 2 hour time limit. Late returns disrupt other
  games. Late charges apply for outdoor games ($70 per game kit). Replacement costs for missing or
  damaged kits will be charged to the organizer who booked your game ($300 per outdoor kit, $2000
  for full replacement of portable game equipment)).
• I agree that I will arrive prepared to play and that I’m responsible to make sure I am able to complete
  the game. I will bring my reading glasses if I need them to see the clues and game materials.. I
  understand game routes for outdoor games cover approximately 2.5km and, while the game is not
  strenuous, walking is involved and players may be on their feet for the duration of the game. I will
  dress appropriately for walking this distance and for the weather (games operate rain or shine, bring
  one umbrella per team!).
• I understand that if I am attending a Vancouver Mysteries special event, I am also responsible to
  follow any guidelines or rules communicated by the venue.
