JOBS AT VANCOUVER MYSTERIES
We are hiring Vancouver!
Seeking Game Operators
OUTDOOR GAMES
An Outdoor Game Operator performs a short script in character and in costume and explains the rules at the beginning of the game. At the end of the game, they meet the players to calculate scores, announce the winner, take team photos, award team certificates and answer questions about the challenges and the mystery. Games operate rain or shine.
VIRTUAL GAMES
This position is similar to the outdoor games in that Virtual Game Operators perform a short script in character and in costume at the beginning of the game and calculate scores at the end. The differences: they are working from their home computer and meeting players online and interacting with the players throughout the game. Virtual Game Operators also provide basic tech support/troubleshoot to players when something isn’t working so familiarity with both Mac and PC, various browsers, and Zoom is an asset. Virtual Game Operators also email photos and certificates to the organizer after the game. Tech requirements: a reliable internet connection (Internet 25), computer with at least a dual core processor, the latest PC or Mac operating system, and the ability to download applications needed to run games.
Flexible hours:
You can expect between 1 and 5 games per week to start and the option to take on many more games in the summer and fall months. Outdoor games are around 2.5 to 3 hours total time (including picking up the game gear at HQ and walking to the start location. Virtual games vary (depending on the game and the group size) and range from 90 minutes to 2.5 hours (including prep time).
Compensation: $50-75 per game (plus travel allowance for outdoor games).
OTHER OPPORTUNITIES
Vancouver Mysteries’ policy is to recruit internally for office/admin work, marketing, game design, and special projects and/or special events positions first. Our Game Operators have worked in contract positions in the areas of online advertising, writing/editing, acting and video production. We require 1-2 part-time/full-time, seasonal Experience Managers to help at Vancouver Mysteries HQ (headquarters) May 1 through to November 1. Experience Managers take bookings, oversee the Game Operators and answer phone calls, texts and emails.
