Vancouver Mysteries is thrilled to launch the third chapter in our popular Murder is a Drag series in Gastown at the Water Street Cafe during the 2025 Dine Out Festival. In 2024 we started with Dinner Date with Death. Then we all gathered again for two sold out back to back shows of Wake the Dead, and now…

RHINESTONES ARE FOREVER

The Mystery: Rhinestones Are Forever is the third chapter in the wildly successful Murder is a Drag series written by Tanya Bennett and produced by Vancouver Mysteries. Rhinestones Are Forever is a murder mystery set at a wedding reception – and you are all wedding guests! But be warned, there WILL be a murder. Can you solve it? A few guests will also be included in the action with props and lines (optional- you can also choose to just watch the show).

The Culinary Experience: This show takes place upstairs on the 2nd Floor of Water Street Cafe at 300 Water Street, right across from the Gastown steamclock. Choose from a Friday night dinner show that includes a 3 course menu or a Sunday brunch 2 course menu.

Dine out, solve a mystery and enjoy drag performances all at the same time! You can be the first to see the newest Murder is a Drag show:

• Show Times – 7PM Dinner Shows (doors at 6PM), 12PM Brunch Shows (doors at 11AM).
• Availability – January 22 through to February 9 2025 (Friday dinner shows and Sunday brunch shows).
• Location – upstairs on the second floor at the wonderful Water Street Cafe at 300 Water Street across from the steam clock in Gastown.
• Price– NOTE: DUE TO THE NEW GST EXEMPT RULES IN CANADA, THESE PRICES ARE SLIGHTLY LOWER (NO GST ON FOOD PORTION). The special Dine Out price is $125 per person for dinner or $95 per person for brunch inclusive (unlike our other events, these special Dine Out event prices include all fees, taxes and gratuity). Note: you purchase tickets from Vancouver Mysteries – this includes the show, dinner, a gratuity for the serving staff, fees and taxes. If you order additional drinks/food the restaurant will bill you directly at the venue.
• Duration – total show time is 90 minutes but the doors open one hour before the show begins and there are photo opportunities with the cast after the show (plan to arrive before show time to order your dinner or get a role in the show).
• Capacity – there are only 40-45 seats available for each show and they are first come, first serve (purchase of tickets is required to reserve your spot). You can buy out a whole show if you buy tickets for 45 people (please contact us).
• Dietary Restrictions/Allergies – please let us know by replying back to your booking confirmation if you have any allergies/restrictions and we will pass that information along to the restaurant.
• Accessiblity – the venue for this event is the 2nd floor of the heritage building at 300 Water Street and does not have an elevator. There are loud musical performances as well as quieter discussions, low lighting in the room and some puzzles require fine motor skills or ability to read fine print. If anyone in your party has concerns about the lighting, volume levels, vision or fine motor skills required please contact us.
• The dinners are 19+, the brunches are all ages (please contact us if you have any questions).

How Does it Work?

The doors opens one hour before the show starts – plan to arrive early to get your orders in to the servers before the experience begins. Your chances of being offered a role in the mystery (a line to say, a prop to use, etc) are better if you get there early.

This is a collaborative and social experience – you may be seated at a table with other people. You can choose to solve the mystery together as a team or on your own, it’s up to you. If you want to be seated together, it is best to purchase your tickets together and arrive early.

You don’t have to participate, you can just watch the show – if you just want to watch the show just let us know.

You will be seated during this experience – players are seated at tables in a restaurant setting and the mystery will unfold around you. There is a stage area but the cast will also move around the room. The servers from Water Street Cafe restaurant will serve you food/drinks at your table. You can order more drinks as well as get up at any time during the show however there are also two intermissions.

There are puzzles to solve – this is a Vancouver Mysteries experience after all! During the first intermission your table will receive a puzzle to solve – it will reveal an important clue to the mystery!

Costumes are encouraged (but optional) – You are wedding guests so wear whatever that means to you. If you have questions about this get in touch. You can decide if you are there for the bride or groom, if you are friends or family.

Can you pick the murderer? During the 2nd intermission everyone has a chance to vote for the suspect they think is the murderer.

(If you’d like to book a private experience, you will need to book all 10 spots for the night you choose or contact us and we can bring this portable mystery experience to you for up to 50 people starting February 10 2025.)
