Chapter 1 Dinner Date With Death

The original murder mystery in the Murder is a Drag series created by Vancouver Mysteries.

A murder mystery set at a restaurant with some very spicy drama is the perfect recipe for a comedy murder mystery! Can you solve the murder? The suspects and the detective are drag performers (watch for clues to be revealed during their songs!). You don’t need to watch the shows in any order – each one is a standalone story.

How it Works

This show is 19+

You are customers at a Greek-Italian restaurant typical of the Drive in Vancouver BC. Costumes encouraged!

IMPORTANT: This show is not actually at a restaurant, it is at a theatre venue.

Tickets include: a seat for the performance (general admission), puzzles to solve and the chance to win prizes.

Drinks will also be available for purchase at the bar (alcoholic and non-alcoholic).

Note: this is NOT a dinner show and there is no kitchen or snacks at the venue.

7PM DOORS OPEN (AND SO DOES THE BAR)

The doors open at 7PM (and so does the bar!). No entry before 7PM. DJ Seb will be there playing tunes, come early and get a good seat and hang out.

Location: 111 West Hastings

No tickets required, your party will be on the guest list under the name of the person who booked your tickets.
Seating is first come, first serve. Smaller groups will be seated at a shared table with other groups.
Plan to arrive early if you are hoping for a role in the show (a line to say, an action, a prop). Costumes encouraged.
The bar will open at 7PM and the show will begin at 8PM.

8PM SHOWTIME

The show starts at 8PM sharp.

No entry before 7PM. Seating for the show is first come, first serve.

Murder is a Drag: a 90 minute murder mystery experience (with two intermissions).

You don’t have to participate, you can just watch the show. If you just want to watch, we recommend you don’t sit in the first row or along the aisles.
Eager to be a part of the fun? If you didn’t receive specific instructions or a prop from an Experience Host before the show you will have opportunities to help the detective along the way. If the detective asks a question – call out your answer!
There are puzzles to solve – this is a Vancouver Mysteries experience after all! During the show you will receive puzzles to solve – it will reveal important clues to the mystery.
This is a collaborative and social experience – you may be seated with other people. You can choose to solve the mystery together as a team or on your own, it’s up to you.
You will be seated during this experience – guests will be seated and the mystery will unfold around you. There is a stage area but the cast will also move around the room.
The bar is open during the show. You can order more drinks during the show and there are also two intermissions.
Performances – the cast is entirely made up of drag performers from our Murder is a Drag Ensemble – the three suspects and the detective in this murder mystery are drag performers and they will also perform songs.
Prizes! You can vote for who you think is the murderer!

9:30PM MEET THE CAST

Meet the cast and have your photos taken with them after the show – don’t be shy, come on up and say hi!

Tipping – If you’d like to show your extra appreciation for the cast and/or crew, tips are always welcome. The performers accept cash or card but you can also etransfer info@vancouvermysteries and we’ll pass it on to them (put “gratuity” in the memo).

Reserve a table at Stock & Supply for Before of After the Show!

Looking for dinner options? Our partner restaurant Stock & Supply is an 8 minute walk from this venue. Show your Murder is a Drag booking confirmation when you arrive to save 15% on their regular menu (alcohol and happy hour not included). They also have a happy hour that runs from 9PM ’til late for after the show. There is a limited seating capacity so reservations are recommended.

Getting There

Look for us inside the Woodwards Building Atrium. Recommended access from Cordova Street just east of Cambie Street (where the big W is!) if you are walking or taking the skytrain (a 6 minute walk from Waterfront Station). There is also a parkade at 151 West Cordova Street. Enter the Woodward Atrium and look for one of our Experience Hosts (black Vancouver Mysteries tshirt, red shoes).

THE MURDER IS A DRAG SERIES

We have three chapters of Murder is a Drag and plans for a 4th show later this year. Each chapter takes place in a different setting with a different murder victim and 3 different suspects. These original murder mystery shows are Vancouver Mysteries productions based on scripts written by Tanya Bennett, the owner of Vancouver Mysteries, and are not available anywhere else at this time. You don’t need to see the shows in any particular order – each chapter in the series is a separate murder mystery with a new story and new suspects.

We went as a party of 5 to this special event in Vancouver, and had a ball. The premise was attending a memorial service for someone who died, and as it played out, it was found to be a murder. It was all performed by drag performers, and it was totally engaging , interesting and fun. I was done while enjoying a dinner and kept up a good pace, while still allowing you to enjoy your meal. God job - we would definitely do it again!

This Vancouver Mysteries show was a fully performed witty and hilarious drag whodunit play that paired well with cocktails and dinner, with lip synced musical numbers from each cast member, as well as plenty of audience interaction and participation. We all needed to pay close attention to what the performers were saying so that we could help catch the killer.
