Chapter 2 Wake the Dead

The second murder mystery in the Murder is a Drag series created by Vancouver Mysteries.

You’ve gathered to celebrate the life of a recently deceased millionaire (please wear black!) so you expect some drama: a widow, the ex wife, the spoiled son and the business manager are there as guests. Also on the guest list: a murderer! Can you solve the mystery? The suspects and the detective are drag performers (watch for clues to be revealed during their songs!). You don’t need to watch the shows in any order – each one is a standalone story.

The doors open at 5:30PM (and so does the bar!). No entry before 5:30PM.

Location: The Mount Pleasant Dining Room & Bar on the hotel’s second floor (accessible by both stairs and an elevator).

No tickets required, your party will be on the guest list under the name of the person who booked your tickets.
Seating in the dining room is first come, first serve. Smaller groups may be seated at a shared table with other groups.
Plan to arrive before dinner if you are hoping for a role in the show (a line to say, an action, a prop). Costumes encouraged.
The bar will open at 5:30PM and dinner will begin at 6PM.

The show starts at 7PM sharp.

Location: The Hastings Sunrise Showroom & Bar on the hotel’s second floor (accessible by both stairs and an elevator).

No entry before 6:45PM. If you want to be seated together, it is best to purchase your tickets together. Seating for the show is first come, first serve based on the order guests have checked in at the Mount Pleasant Lounge & Bar. All guests in the Mount Pleasant Lounge & Bar will be seated in the Showroom first.

Murder is a Drag: a 90 minute murder mystery experience (with two intermissions).

You don’t have to participate, you can just watch the show. If you just want to watch, we recommend you don’t sit in the first row or along the aisles.
Eager to be a part of the fun? If you didn’t receive specific instructions or a prop from an Experience Host before the show you will have opportunities to help the detective along the way. If the detective asks a question – call out your answer!
There are puzzles to solve – this is a Vancouver Mysteries experience after all! During the show you will receive puzzles to solve – it will reveal an important clue to the mystery.
This is a collaborative and social experience – you may be seated with other people. You can choose to solve the mystery together as a team or on your own, it’s up to you.
You will be seated during this experience – guests will be seated in theatre style seating (rows) and the mystery will unfold around you. There is a stage area but the cast will also move around the room.
The bar is open during the show. You can order more drinks during the show and there are also two intermissions.
Performances – the cast is entirely made up of drag performers from our Murder is a Drag Ensemble – the three suspects and the detective in this murder mystery are drag performers and they will also perform songs.
Prizes! You can vote for who you think is the murderer!

8:30PM MEET THE CAST

Meet the cast and have your photos taken with them after the show – don’t be shy, come on up and say hi!

Tipping – If you’d like to show your extra appreciation for the cast and/or crew, tips are always welcome. The person who booked your seats will receive a link after the show that they can forward to you. The performers also accept cash or card, dahhhhhhling!

Price: Ticket prices includes the 90 minute show with puzzles to solve and the chance to win prizes! You can see the fees, gratuity and taxes during the booking process before you check out. If you pay online, the booking system on the ticketing platform used will add on an additional booking fee. Hot tip: if you book over the phone or by email you can avoid this fee. Avoid the online booking fee when you book direct – our Experience Team is standing by 7 days a week, 10:30AM – 6:30PM.

Payment: We accept credit cards and e-transfer. The bar at the venue only accepts payment by card (debit or credit card, no cash) however our performers welcome cash tips during the meet and greet after the show!

THE MURDER IS A DRAG SERIES

We have three chapters of Murder is a Drag and plans for a 4th show later this year. Each chapter takes place in a different setting with a different murder victim and 3 different suspects. These original murder mystery shows are Vancouver Mysteries productions based on scripts written by Tanya Bennett, the owner of Vancouver Mysteries, and are not available anywhere else at this time. You don’t need to see the shows in any particular order – each chapter in the series is a separate murder mystery with a new story and new suspects.

We went as a party of 5 to this special event in Vancouver, and had a ball. The premise was attending a memorial service for someone who died, and as it played out, it was found to be a murder. It was all performed by drag performers, and it was totally engaging , interesting and fun. I was done while enjoying a dinner and kept up a good pace, while still allowing you to enjoy your meal. God job - we would definitely do it again!

This Vancouver Mysteries show was a fully performed witty and hilarious drag whodunit play that paired well with cocktails and dinner, with lip synced musical numbers from each cast member, as well as plenty of audience interaction and participation. We all needed to pay close attention to what the performers were saying so that we could help catch the killer.
